Sanchez, Ranking Member. 112th Congress Report 1st Session HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES 112-192 ====================================================================== COMMITTEE ON ETHICS IN THE MATTER OF TODD POOLE _______ August 5, 2011 _______ Mr. Bonner, from the Committee on Ethics, submitted the following R E P O R T In accordance with rule 18(e)(2) of the Committee on Ethics (Committee), the Committee hereby submits the following report to the House of Representatives. I. FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS On September 8, 2011, the Committee convened for the purpose of considering criminal charges filed in North Carolina District Court against Todd Poole, an employee of the House, on August 10, 2011, for allegedly driving while impaired and resisting a public officer.\1\ Mr. Poole was released and ordered to return to court on September 13, 2011, to respond to these charges. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- \1\Mr. Poole was also charged with a traffic infraction. This charge is not covered by the reporting requirements of Committee Rule 18(e)(2), which relates only to charges of criminal conduct. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Committee has not voted on whether to empanel an investigative subcommittee regarding this matter. The Committee has made a preliminary inquiry regarding the charges filed against Mr. Poole and the status of his court case and expects to obtain additional information regarding this matter. When the Committee obtains more information about the events surrounding this case, it will determine what, if any, further action is appropriate.\2\ The Committee notes that the mere fact of conducting a review, and any mandatory disclosure of such review, does not itself indicate that any violation has occurred, or reflect any judgment on behalf of the Committee. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- \2\The Committee has jurisdiction over the conduct of Members, officers, and employees of the House. STATEMENT UNDER RULE 13, CLAUSE 3(c) OF THE RULES OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES The Committee made no special oversight findings in this Report. No budget statement is submitted. No funding is authorized by any measure in this Report.
