Waco Mammoth Site Special Resource Study / Environmental Assessment

This special resource study is investigating, for possible designation as a new unit of the national park system, the site within the city limits of Waco, Texas, where the remains of a Pleistocene Columbian Mammoth herd were discovered.

Special resource studies are initiated upon the direction of Congress. Studies can evaluate a number of things, with specific focus dictated by the language of the legislation. In the case of the Waco Mammoth Site, Congress specifically requested that a study be conducted to evaluate the site's potential for inclusion as a new unit of the national park system.

We invite your participation in the study process and welcome your comments on the report.
