Planning Update #7, March 2016

The Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP) is available. We, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), are pleased to announce that the final step in the planning process has been completed, a “standalone” CCP.

In February of 2015, the Final CCP/EIS (Environmental Impact Statement) was completed and in April 2015 the Record of Decision  (ROD)  was signed. Then we began the intensive process of removing the EIS portions from the document to create a “standalone” CCP.

The CCP represents a balance between our responsibility to protect wildlife and habitat while still providing many recreational activities that our community enjoys.

The announcement of the signed Record of Decision was a milestone memorialized through a press conference graciously organized by Senator Crapo’s office and held at the Deer Flat NWR Visitor Center on April 8, 2015.

This milestone is the culmination of years of collaborative effort on the part of the Service and our many partners: elected officials at all levels of government (city, county, state, and federal), representatives from agencies and groups, and other stakeholders.

We appreciate everyone who provided comments and engaged in our process.
