OPENING STATEMENT OF HONORABLE ROY BLUNT, CHAIRMAN, A U.S. SENATOR FROM THE STATE OF MISSOURI Chairman Blunt. While we have got a quorum, the Committee will come to order. We have one item on the agenda, which is the Omnibus Committee Funding Resolution for this Congress. The resolution authorizes funding for 18 committees during the Congress. The overall authorization reflects a slight decrease from the 113th Congress, but it is consistent with current and anticipated appropriations. I will say that this is the earliest the Committee has gotten this resolution done, and a lot of that is due to the really great work that Senator Schumer's staff did getting ready for this year, and then Stacy McBride and our staff have come right in with them to see that we get this done as quickly as we possibly can. I would like to recognize the Ranking Member and thank him for accommodating getting this done today. I know you have got another committee meeting quickly, as does Senator Shelby, and Senator Wicker has now arrived. Senator Schumer. Well, thank you, Mr. Chairman. Thank you. I look forward to working with you. I am not surprised that the Committee is off to a fine, efficient start, even more efficient than under previous management. And we look forward to having---- Senator Roberts. What do you mean by that? Senator Schumer. Take it as you wish. Senator Roberts. It was our deal, except you were never there. It was Angus. Senator Schumer. Yes. Well, that is who I was referring to, Angus and Tom Udall, the mainstays of the Committee. In any case, I look forward to working with you, Mr. Chairman. Chairman Blunt. Well---- Senator Alexander. I am glad to see Senator Schumer is the Ranking Member. Senator Schumer. Hey, being in the minority is not so bad, and being in the majority is not such a bowl of cherries, is it, Lamar? Chairman Blunt. Well, before I move that we adopt this motion, let me thank all the members for making an effort to get here. We changed the schedule to accommodate other hearings, but we do need to get this work done. This will likely be one of the better attended meetings of the Rules Committee, and I am appreciative, as Senator Schumer is, for that. I move that we adopt the authorizing resolution for the Committee budgets for the 114th Congress and would turn to Senator Schumer for a second. Senator Schumer. Second. Chairman Blunt. All in favor, say aye? [A chorus of ayes.] Chairman Blunt. All opposed, nay? [No response.] Chairman Blunt. The ayes have it. The resolution is reported. With no further business, the Committee is adjourned. [Whereupon, at 9:52 a.m., the Committee was adjourned.]
