INTRODUCTION: The National Park Service (NPS) has just published the Ross Lake National Recreation Area Draft General Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement (Ross Lake NRA Draft GMP/EIS) and the document is now available for review. To comment on the document, please click on the "Comment on document" link on the top right of this page.

The two volume document is available for review electronicaly by downloading the following files, organized by chapter. Hard copies and compact discs (CDs) of the document can also be obtained by calling the NPS at (360)854-7205, or by e-mailing the NPS at [email protected].

The purpose of the plan is to articulate a vision and overall management philosophy for Ross Lake National Recreation Area (NRA) that will guide decision-making by current and future management teams during the next 15 to 20 years. The draft plan presents management strategies for resource protection and preservation, education and interpretation, visitor use and facilities, land protection and boundaries, and long-term operations and management of Ross Lake NRA.

The document contains information about the background and history of Ross Lake NRA; the purpose, significance, interpretive themes, and special mandates for the unit; the purpose and need for the plan; a conditions assessment of Ross Lake NRA and its affected environment; the alternative management strategies, preferred alternative, and management zones; impacts that could result from implementing any of these alternatives; a summary of public involvement and public comments; and the draft Skagit Wild and Scenic River Studies.
