Orientation Notices Feedback Glossary Resources

Welcome!

This tutorial is designed for museums, libraries, and related organizations that are applying for National Leadership Grants (NLG). The purpose is to provide you with skills, knowledge, and tools to develop a good project plan.

The Orientation tab in the horizontal bar at the top of each page will help you proceed through the different parts of this tutorial.

The tutorial covers the four phases illustrated in the diagram below. We recommend that you follow the arrows, because each phase builds on the previous one. However, you can enter at any phase and move back and forth among the phases as you want.

Define the Project

In the first phase, you will learn a step-by-step process for getting your project underway, including analyzing the needs of your organization and your project's target audience. You will also formulate the goals for your project.

Plan the Project

In the second phase, you will develop the components of your project plan, including the activities, the evaluation approach, and the schedule and resources.

Do the Project

In the final phase, you will learn about the key steps to take to carry out, evaluate, and sustain the results of your project, after you receive a grant award. This phase is not covered in detail in this tutorial.

Write the Grant Application

In the third phase, you will learn practical tips for writing proposals for different IMLS grant programs. This phase is not covered in detail in this tutorial.

Stakeholders and communication: The need to identify and communicate with the individuals, groups, or organizations that influence or can be affected by your project applies to all phases.

Have a fun, productive learning experience!
