Revision of the Land Management Plan for the Chugach National Forest
The USDA Forest Service is currently revising the 2002 Chugach National Forest Land Management Plan following the requirements of the 2012 National Forest System Planning Rule.
The comment period is closed for the draft land Management Plan and DEIS.

Draft Land Management Plan and Draft Environmental Impact Statement
The Draft Land Management Plan and Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Chugach National Forest are available for review. The DEIS analyzes the potential effects of four alternatives.
Public Participation
This is an important milestone in the process of revising our forest management direction. We have incorporated input we heard from you from 19 community open houses, 27 public meetings and workshops, and targeted outreach efforts to federally recognized Alaska Native Tribes and Corporations, the State of Alaska, federal agencies, groups, and individuals.

CARA Comment Database Issue Resolution
On October 30, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. w were notified by the developers of the U.S. Forest Service Comment and Analysis Response Application ( CARA) database that due to a software update, the Chugach National Forest, as well as other forests, experienced some comment submissions appearing incorrectly in the reading room. Thus, commenters checking to confirm the receipt of their comments on or around October 24th to the 26th may not have seen their comments accurately in the reading room (many saw a 2016 letter related to the Sierra, Sequoia, and Inyo National Forests).
The software problem has been corrected and all comments submitted to date are associated with the Chugach National Forest draft Land Management Plan. If you submitted comments during this timeframe, you can check the reading room for your submission. To view comments in the reading room click here.
Thank you for your patience as we worked with our national office to correct this problem. We value your input and can confirm comments received in the CARA database were never changed or lost in this software update.
NEXT STEPS: Final Land Management Plan and FEIS and Administrative Review (Objection Process)
Public comments will be incorporated into a final EIS (FEIS) and Land Management Plan to be published in 2019. Publication of the FEIS will begin a 60-day objection period. Alaska Native Tribes and Corporations who engaged in formal consultation during the planning process, and individuals and entities who have submitted substantive formal comments related to the plan or plan revision during this 90-day comment period or during previous opportunities to comment (spring 2015 assessment comment period; winter 2015-16 Proposed Revised Plan scoping comment period) may file an objection. If there are no objections, or after the time allowed for resolution of objections, the Forest Supervisor will sign and publish a Final Record of Decision and the Land Management Plan will be in effect 30 days later.
