THE INSPECTOR GENERAL

Roderick Fillinger was appointed as the Inspector General for the Denali Commission on January 19, 2020. He has worked in the IG community for 20 years. Prior to his appointment to the position of Inspector General, he served as the Deputy Inspector General and Counsel to the IG at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. He has been active in the OIG legal community and serves as an instructor for the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency Training Institute. Prior to joining the SEC OIG, Rod served as the General Counsel and Deputy Special Inspector General for Legal and External Affairs at the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (SIGTARP), where he oversaw the provision of legal services as well as Communications and Legislative Affairs. Before his tenure at SIGTARP, he was the Chief Counsel to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA). He joined TIGTA in 2000. He began his public service career through the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) Office of Chief Counsel’s honors program, and served as an attorney in both district and regional offices of the IRS in Atlanta and Cincinnati. He provided legal support to the IRS related to federal employment law, government contracting, ethics, criminal tax, and other tax controversy matters. He has litigated on behalf of the IRS in the United States Tax Court and served as a special assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District of Ohio.

Who We Are

The Denali Commission Act, as amended and the Inspector General Act of 1978 (P.L. 95-452), as amended require the Denali Commission to have an Inspector General.  The act requires the Inspector General to independently and objectively:

  • Conduct audits and investigations of the Denali Commission programs and operations;
  • Work with the Denali management team for activities designed to promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness or that prevent and detect fraud and abuse in programs and operations; and
  • Report OIG activities to the Authority and the U.S. Congress semiannually as of March 31 and September 30 each year   

What We Do

The OIG’s mission is to provide independent oversight by conducting audits, investgations and other reviews of the programs and operations of the Denali Commission.

We carry out our mission by:

  • conducting independent audits and reviews of Denali Commission programs and operations, the security of information technology, compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and the accuracy of financial reports; and
  • investigating allegations of fraud and abuse.
