SUMMARY: Announcement of student financial assistance videoconferences to
be held in April and May l995

Dear Colleague:

Student Financial Assistance Programs is pleased to announce two
videoconferences to be presented during the months of April and May 1995.
The videoconferences, presented free of charge to all postsecondary
institutions by the U.S. Department of Education, will offer current
information on the following topics:

April 21, 1995 National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS)
1:00 - 4:00 PM (for schools providing Federal Perkins Loan data)
(Eastern Time)

May 23, 1995 School Responsibilities under Title IV
1:00 - 3:00 PM (gatekeeping, recertification, and related topics)
(Eastern Time)

The videoconferences will be presented by a team of Department of Education
staff, contractor staff, and school experts. The videoconferences will be
interactive, offering participants the opportunity to use a toll-free number
or FAX to question the panel of presenters.

The target audience for the April videoconference is all schools and school
servicers that will be providing Perkins Loan and SEOG overpayment data to
NSLDS. Business officers responsible for Perkins loan servicing as well as
financial aid administrators are encouraged to attend this videoconference.
The April 21 videoconference will be broadcast on the following satellites:

KU Band - Galaxy 7, (91 degrees west), Transponder 19, Vertical
Downlink Frequency 12080 Mhz Audio at 6.2 and 6.8

C Band - Galaxy 3, (93.5 degrees west), Transponder 20, Vertical
Downlink Frequency 4100 Mhz, Channel 20 (may not be accurate of
each system) Audio at 6.2 and 6.8

The May videoconference is addressed to school presidents and financial aid
administrators, and will focus on gatekeeping topics, including the
recertification process. The May 23 videoconference will be broadcast on
the following satellites:

Enclosed is a form to register for each videoconference. If you wish to
register as a host (receiving) site, please include the specific address of
the building in which the videoconference will be received. We will provide
schools with a list of host sites by way of the Postsecondary Education
Network (PEN) and the SFA Bulletin Board. If you are unable to access the
remote site information electronically, please call the Federal Student Aid
Information Center at 1-800-4-FEDAID for information about the host site
nearest to you. Individuals wishing to travel to a host site should contact
that site's coordinator to indicate that they will attend.

Written materials for each videoconference will be mailed to the remote
site coordinator for distribution. The materials may be reproduced as needed.
If you are unable to view the videoconferences live, you may borrow a copy
of each videoconference on videotape, along with the supporting materials.
Call 1-800-4-FEDAID (toll-free) one week following each videoconference to
borrow a tape.

technology of the videoconferencing medium during 1995.
